Discord Bot Hosting

Experience 24/7 reliability and premium performance with dedicated cloud resources.

When you create a Discord bot, you write code that connects to Discord’s API and responds to events in your server, like messages, reactions, and user joins. For the bot to work, the code needs to be running constantly. That’s why Kamatera’s 99.95% uptime guarantee and low-latency performance is perfectly suited for Discord bot hosting.

Discord communities can grow overnight. Kamatera allows you to increase your CPU, RAM, and storage in seconds. You never have to migrate to a new server just because your bot became popular; simply add the resources you need through our intuitive management console.

Frequently asked questions

What are the minimum system requirements for a VPS hosting a Discord bot?

For a Discord bot serving a few dozen to a few hundred servers, the minimum VPS system requirements are quite low.

CPU: 1 vCore (approx. 2.0 GHz or higher)
RAM: 1GB is highly recommended for stability
Storage: 10GB – 20GB NVMe SSD
OS: Any 64-bit Linux distribution (e.g., Ubuntu 22.04/24.04, Debian)
Network: At least 100 Mbps connection

If your bot is in thousands of servers or handles heavy data (image generation, audio streaming), you will need to scale up:
CPU: 2-4+ Cores
RAM: 4GB – 8GB+
Storage: 50GB+ NVMe SSD

What are some of the most common Discord bot types?

The most common types of Discord bots are:

Community management bots
Moderation bots, welcome bots, and auto-role systems handle server automation tasks. These bots typically run continuously to respond to member joins, message events, and moderation triggers in real-time.

Music and entertainment bots
Audio streaming bots process and deliver music playback to voice channels. These applications require sufficient CPU and RAM to handle audio encoding and multiple concurrent streams across different servers.

Custom dashboard bots
Bots with web interfaces typically combine a Discord bot backend with a web server frontend. These setups often include databases like MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or Redis, and run on Node.js, Python, Java, or Go.

Multi-purpose bot networks
Some developers run multiple bots serving different Discord servers or communities. These can operate from a single server with adequate resources, or be distributed across separate instances depending on isolation requirements.

Economy and gaming bots
Bots managing virtual currencies, inventory systems, RPG mechanics, or player statistics store data in databases.

Utility and productivity bots
Reminder systems, polling tools, announcement schedulers, and translation services perform specific automated functions.

Can I choose where my server is located?

Yes. Kamatera has data centers in 20+ locations across North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Choosing a location close to Discord’s own servers or your primary user base can help reduce command latency.

Which operating systems can I use?

Ubuntu LTS (Long Term Support) is the most popular choice and what most Discord bot tutorials assume you’re using. It also has the largest community, and easiest package management. Ubuntu 22.04 or 24.04 both work great. If you’re running a .NET bot, you’ll want Windows Server. CentOS or Debian work fine and some developers have specific reasons to prefer them.

How does the free trial work?

Kamatera offers a 30-day free trial includes one server worth up to $100. You can set up your free VPS server, install an operating system, and select a location from one of our 20+ data centers worldwide.

If you choose monthly billing, you will receive your first invoice the month after the free trial expires. For example, if you start your free trial on November 20, the free trial will be until December 20. If you choose to continue using our services and don’t terminate your server, your first invoice will be sent out after January 1. That invoice will include a prorated charge for December 20-31, as well as the month of January.

How do I protect my bot’s database?

Run your database on localhost or private network (not exposed to public internet), use strong database passwords, configure database user permissions properly, and back up regularly. If running sensitive data, consider encryption at rest. For most Discord bots, these standard practices are sufficient.

Does Kamatera offer technical support?

Kamatera has a global technical support team that is available 24/7/365. You can email, call, or chat with us. Our representatives will provide a prompt response to resolve your concerns.

Can I upgrade and downgrade my VPS cloud plan?

We do not require long-term commitments from our customers.

You can scale up or down at any time.

When you create a monthly server, you will prepay monthly for the server configuration you selected at the time of creation, plus a prorated amount for any upgrades made after that time.
When you decide to terminate this server, you just need to pay for the current month in which you canceled. However, once the new month begins, if the monthly server is terminated, you will not be charged.

If you deploy hourly servers, your charges will vary depending on whether the server is powered on or off. Once you terminate your hourly server, you will no longer be charged. You may terminate the service at any time.
