What is a CentOS Stream VPS?

A CentOS Stream VPS (Virtual Private Server) is an isolated cloud environment running the CentOS Stream operating system. It provides dedicated resources (CPU, RAM, storage) and full root access, delivering an enterprise-class server experience with the unique benefit of utilizing RHEL’s continuous development codebase.

You get a dedicated virtual environment with guaranteed resources, root access, and current software packages. It’s ideal for development, testing, and production environments that benefit from newer features while maintaining enterprise stability.

Despite its continuous nature, a CentOS Stream VPS is a highly stable and secure host suitable for demanding production workloads. It inherits the rigorous testing and verification processes of the RHEL development ecosystem, offering both reliability and access to modern kernel features and security improvements.

What are the system requirements for deploying CentOS Stream?

Your machine must meet these minimum system requirements:

Memory: Minimum 2 GB (system will run with 1 GB but performance will be affected)
Disk space: 10 GB (including 1 GB user data) for default setup (1 GB for minimal setup)

For more details, visit the installation instructions for CentOS Stream 9.

What level of technical support is included?

Kamatera has a global technical support team that is available 24/7/365. You can email, call, or chat with us on our live chat. Our customer support representatives will provide a prompt response to resolve your concerns.

What changed about CentOS Stream compared to traditional CentOS?

The CentOS ecosystem has evolved. CentOS Stream serves as a rolling preview of upcoming RHEL releases, while traditional CentOS provided a stable, downstream rebuild. We support both models and also offer straightforward migration paths to CentOS alternatives like Rocky Linux and AlmaLinux if you prefer the traditional stable release model.

Can I scale my resources as my needs change?

Yes, our cloud infrastructure is designed for flexibility. You can upgrade or downgrade CPU, memory, and storage resources as needed. Scale vertically by adding more power to existing instances, or scale horizontally by deploying additional instances behind a load balancer. Changes can be made with minimal or no downtime.

What can you do with a virtual private server running CentOS Stream?

Our CentOS cloud hosting is ideally suited for organizations running production environments, web hosting platforms, application servers, database clusters, development and testing environments, and any workload that demands the reliability and predictability of an enterprise Linux distribution.

What are the terms of the free trial?
