Factorio Server Hosting

Build the ultimate Factorio megabase on Kamatera’s high-performance cloud.

Your factory deserves infrastructure as efficient as your production lines. Kamatera’s cloud servers deliver the performance, reliability, and flexibility Factorio multiplayer demands, so you can focus on optimization, not server lag.

Factorio’s simulation complexity grows exponentially with factory size. Kamatera’s powerful Intel Xeon processors handle thousands of active entities, sprawling conveyor networks, and complex circuit logic without stuttering or slowdowns. Your megabase runs at full UPS, even with ten thousand robots in flight.

Factorio
  • Kamatera’s powerful Intel Xeon processors handle thousands of active entities, sprawling conveyor networks, and complex circuit logic without the stuttering and slowdowns that plague underpowered servers.
  • Factorio is memory-hungry as factories expand, and Kamatera gives you the flexibility to grow your resources exactly when you need them (not weeks later after submitting support tickets).
  • Whether your factory crew spans North America, Europe, or Asia, choose a location that minimizes latency for everyone. Lower ping means responsive building, precise combat, and smoother multiplayer experiences.
  • Your factory never sleeps—and neither should your server. Enterprise-grade infrastructure with redundant power, networking, and cooling ensures your Factorio server stays online even when you’re offline expanding the base.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Factorio?

Factorio is a construction and management simulation game where you build and maintain factories on an alien planet. You start by mining resources by hand and progress to creating massive automated production lines powered by conveyor belts, robots, trains, and complex logistics networks. The game features multiplayer where friends can collaborate on building enormous factories together. It’s beloved for its deep optimization gameplay, mod support, and the way factory complexity scales from simple beginnings to mind-bendingly intricate megabases producing thousands of science packs per minute.

What are the system requirements for deploying Factorio?

The minimum system requirements for deploying Factorio depend on whether you’re running the game client or a dedicated server.

For the game (player):
CPU: Dual-core 3 GHz or better
RAM: 4 GB
Graphics: DirectX 10.1-capable GPU with at least 512 MB VRAM
Storage: Around 3 GB free disk space
OS: 64-bit Windows, macOS, or Linux

For a dedicated server (headless):
CPU: Dual-core 3 GHz or better (good single-core performance is important)
RAM: 2 GB minimum (4 GB recommended for larger worlds or more players)
Storage: 3–5 GB (more if using mods or large save files)
OS: 64-bit Windows, macOS, or Linux

A dual-core CPU, 4 GB RAM, 64-bit OS, and a few GB of storage are sufficient for basic deployment, but requirements increase with larger worlds, more players, or mods. Read more about it here.

How do I control who can access my Factorio server?

Factorio offers several security options: whitelist specific players by username, set a server password, or use Factorio’s authentication system to require valid Factorio accounts. You can also implement firewall rules on the Kamatera cloud console to restrict access by IP address. Most private servers use password protection combined with whitelisting, which effectively limits access to invited friends.

What happens to my Factorio server when I’m not playing?

Your server continues running 24/7 unless you shut it down. Factorio’s headless server is lightweight when no players are connected—it pauses simulation but remains ready for players to join. You can configure autosave frequency and set the server to automatically pause when no players are online to reduce resource usage. This lets friends join anytime without coordinating, and your factory is always ready.

What are the common use cases for hosting a Factorio server?

The most common use cases include: private servers for friend groups who want a persistent world where they can build together on their own schedule; public community servers that welcome new players and maintain large collaborative factories; modded playthroughs using overhaul mods like Space Exploration or Krastorio 2 that require more server resources; speedrun and challenge servers where precision and low latency matter for competitive play; and multiple save management where communities run several different factories simultaneously, such as a vanilla world, a modded world, and an experimental testing environment.

Many players also host servers for organized events and competitions, temporarily scaling resources up for tournaments or community build challenges, then scaling back down afterward. Each use case benefits from dedicated hosting’s reliability and the ability to keep factories running 24/7 without requiring someone’s personal computer to stay on.

Is there technical support available?

Kamatera has a global technical support team that is available 24/7/365. Our customer support representatives will provide a prompt response to resolve your concerns.

Can I upgrade and downgrade my VPS cloud plan?

You can scale up or down at any time.

When you create a monthly server, you will prepay monthly for the server configuration you selected at the time of creation, plus a prorated amount for any upgrades made after that time. When you decide to terminate this server, you just need to pay for the current month in which you canceled. However, once the new month begins, if the monthly server is terminated, you will not be charged.

If you deploy hourly servers, your charges will vary depending on whether the server is powered on or off. Once you terminate your hourly server, you will no longer be charged. You may terminate the service at any time.

What are the terms of the free trial?

During the 30-day trial period, you may create one server with a configuration costing up to $100. You will have 1000 GB of free traffic available. Customers must provide a valid credit card to start the trial, but the card will not be charged if you stay within the usage limits stated above. If you wish to cancel the free trial, you can simply terminate your server without incurring any charges. However, if you do not cancel before the trial ends, we will begin charging for services used.

Which payment methods do you accept?

Our system accepts credit/debit cards issued by your local bank branch with a cardholder’s name. We also accept payments through PayPal.
